Key Progress Indicators – Rankings

Search engine rankings are an essential KPI for any SEO campaign.

Of the 3 main KPIs:

  • Conversions / ecommerce
  • Organic traffic
  • Search rankings

the search rankings are probably the least important to track. They are still VERY important, but actual traffic on your website and how much they convert would be a better thing to focus on in result reports for clients.

Google’s New Hair Do

Pages from Ireland

Google has just splashed out on a new look for the summer.

In Google’s attempt to stay on top in the search engine wars they have changed the look and functionality available on their search results.

The search results page display has been changed. They have added search options on the left hand side of the search results. I would imagine this has been inserted so as to help Google users pinpoint the most relevant search results for them. The new design seems a bit alien to me at the moment but I am sure my eyes will adjust to this new look and added functionality.

Did you know that Google search rankings can differ depending on whether or not you are logged into your Google account? Now you do. If you are a budding SEO type person then you probably check your key search phrase rankings in Google regularly. If you are logged into your Google account while searching then Google records your browsing history and uses this to make the results more relevant to you.

Google analyses your browsing history and promotes sites that you visit regularly up the rankings for different search queries. This is part of Google’s personalized search. If you are like me and you are constantly logged into your Google account all day then the results you view are most likely skewed. Your client will probably not be seeing the same results.
